The aid will help over 10,000 victims of Typhoon Ketsana and distributed among 11 shelters and a health center in the area of Quezon City, Manila.
Farmamundi supplies 8 tons of medicines, medical supplies and food to victims in the Philippines
Valencia (Spain), 01/10/2009.- More than 10,000 people in the area of Quezon City, in Manila, will receive health care in the wake of typhoon Ketsana. Today thursday, October 1st, at 12:00 hours, has left the Farmamundi Headquarters in Valencia (Spain) a shipment of medicines, medical supplies and food for adults and children bound for the Philippines.
The nearly eight tons will leave on Friday at 18:00, from the air base at Torrejón de Ardoz (Madrid) a plane chartered by the Spanish International Cooperation Agency along (AECID) with the rest of the device supply logistics coordinated by the AECID that are already in Madrid. The assistance provided by Farmamundi will be distributed among 11 shelters, a health center and Manila Spanish Embassy in the Philippines.
In total, Farmamundi supply is valued at 40,000 euros. The financing of the cargo has been thanks to agreements signed by Farmamundi Humanitarian Action with the Generalitat Valenciana, Extremadura Cooperation Agency for International Development, Humanitarian Agency of Galicia and the Barcelona city, to implement immediate intervention following a humanitarian crisis and act in the post-emergency and improve the health of victims in cases of natural or human phenomena.
The shipment consists of a kit IEHK'08 to serve 10,000 people for 3 months; supplements to treat diarrhea and purification systems, food for adults and children, family hygiene kits, medicines and medical supplies; specific drugs and vitamins and orthopedics, obstetrics and pediatrics kits. This is funded by the Generalitat Valenciana, Extremadura Cooperation Agency for International Development, Humanitarian Agency of Galicia, Barcelona city and Apotecaris Solidaris of the Illes Baleares.
With this intervention, managed by the Humanitarian Logistics Farmamundi Area within 24 hours, are two emergency operations in the Philippines in just over a year. In June 2008, Farmamundi provided the AECID more than two tons of medicines and medical supplies to help those affected by typhoon Fengshen in the country.
