BARCELONA CITY COUNCIL has launched the Barcelona Intercultural Dialogue programme for 2008 coinciding with the European Year of Intercultural Dialogue.
Today, Barcelona is a complex space of meeting of cultural influences from around the world offering new opportunities for the city. It is an open metropolis, as it is a receiver of new inhabitants who bring new identities, beliefs and expressions, whether these are citizens from other European countries or the rest of the world, or for the impact that the new information and communication technologies have today on the exchange and interrelations between citizens from almost all the corners of the planet.
This coexistence in diversity brings present and future challenges. Therefore, Barcelona City Council is committed to supporting the processes of accommodation that promote coming together, interaction and mutual understanding, as this is how we will foster and enrich the collective cultural baggage, and guarantee the harmony of our city.
Catalan culture is, in itself, the cultural heritage of Barcelona as a host city and it is on this basis that we are building a cohesive and plural society at one with the richness of its interculturality.
The programme lists and presents the activities and initiatives taking place in our city, encouraging recognition, understanding, dialogue, debate, memory and innovation related to this diverse cultural reality.
