The
Pedagogical Co-ordination Council promotes educational excellence in
the school activities and experiences provided by its members. The
desire of the members of the Pedagogical Co-ordination Council to
achieve effectiveness and efficiency in relation to their educational
goals entails the need to establish a set of quality parameters and
criteria for evaluating the plans for the educational activities
offered to schools in order to ensure that they are of a high standard.
At several meetings of the Pedagogical Co-ordination Council proposals
have been put forward regarding the criteria for assessing the plans
for the activities organised within the framework of the School
Activities Programme and the methods for establishing effective
assessment indicators and instruments.
Qualitative improvement of these activities also requires training for
the staff involved. Continuous training activities aimed at the
professionals in the organisations belonging to the Pedagogical
Co-ordination Council include talks, the presentation of facilities and
educational resources, conferences, seminars and working groups.
The educational activities of the Pedagogical Co-ordination Council
members are published every school year in the School Activities
Programme whose aim is to furnish as much information as possible on
the educational activities provided by civic organisations. The School
Activities Programme systematises the descriptions of the activities to
make it easier for teachers to choose those that are most suitable for
their requirements. More than 3000 different activities are available
every academic year for students at all educational leves. This number
is growing year by
year, although not in a linear fashion, as the activities available
each school year vary quite considerably.
The activities provided cover a wide spectrum of topics: music and the
stage, involvement and solidarity, the natural environment and
environmental education, films, the plastic arts, mobility education,
health and risk prevention, physical education, access to information,
service companies, the media, municipal services, public transport,
knowledge of history, science and technology, etc.

In
addition, the Programme also furnishes information on booking the
activities, how schools can get in touch with the organisations
providing the activities beforehand and access to related materials and
documentation. The School Activities Programme and the system for
booking the activities can be accessed via the Internet. The number of
activities booked over the Internet has increased each year too. The
School Activities Programme website also has teaching materials and
suggestions to do with the activities on offer.
In addition to this, the Pedagogical Co-ordination Council is a
framework for collaboration among organisations for the production of
materials and resources, and the evaluation and dissemination of
activities.
Since 2002 the Pedagogical Co-ordination Council has had a Set of Rules
governing how it operates laying down, among other things, how the
Council’s meetings are organised and how often they are held. The
Pedagogical Co-ordination Council holds plenary meetings of
representatives of all organisations belonging to it and meetings open
to teachers and other education professionals. The aim of these open
sessions is to establish a dialogue between schools and civic
organisations with a view to improving collaboration between them on
educational matters.
