The first field of instrumental research is developed from the heritage collections from the Instrumental Fonds, the Historic Archive and the Sound Fonds of the Museu de la Música and specifically in connection with studies on conservation and restoration processes.
All the interventions that are carried out on an instrument are addressed to researching its history and musical use. In this process, it should be understood that it is just as important to recover the sound of an instrument as to conserve all its original parts, which are necessary to preserve its fidelity to its original sound and to gather the information that the instrument can provide on materials, construction and interpretation.
In parallel to the research and restoration programmes, the Museu de la Música lends support to researchers’ proposals and places at their disposal the Documentation and Research Area. Access and consultation.
