The castellers welcome newcomers

Five groups of castellers (castle builders) from the city districts of Barcelona, Sants, Vila de Gràcia, Poble Sec and Sagrada Familia will participate in this year’s “Todos somos un grupo” (“We are a team”) initiative, a project designed to facilitate the creation of new casteller groups, with special emphasis on the newly arrived immigrant population.

Those interested in participating in this project can attend a series workshops in which they will learn about the casteller tradition (history, folklore, general information and terminology) and take part in preliminary trainings. The sessions will be held from May 17th to June 4th at the participating casteller clubs. They are free of charge and do not require early registration.

Common interests within public spaces

The "Todos somos un grupo" initiative is ascribed to Section 9 on Social Revitalization – of the Barcelona Intercultural Plan. The welfare of the city’s social fabric is crucial in the future of social coexistence, and in fact, the concept of the castellers can certainy become an ideal common space to share through solidarity, hard work and team spirit, key factors in promoting social exchange and mutual knowledge.
