Welcome to the New Citizens information portal. It has been designed for everyone, from professionals working in different disciplines related to immigration and newcomers to the city of Barcelona, to the general public, including anyone who wants to learn about the reality of immigration in this municipality.
Through this portal we provide access to the information and resources made available by the Barcelona City Council in an effort to tackle one of the most important social transitions of our time: the new social composition of the city due to the migratory fluctuations of the last years.
To address this challenge, in 2006 the Barcelona City Council Immigration Department launched the Barcelona City Reception Guidelines, currently aimed at promoting intercultural relations through the systematic and gradual development of common areas and initiatives that can enable positive interaction. And in 2009 it created the Municipal Intercultural Plan.
The New Citizens portal offers a window from which we endorse the principles of equality between rights and duties, acknowledgement of cultural diversity, improvement of community relations and social cohesion. These are the principles that guide all of the actions carried out by the Barcelona City Council on immigration issues.
We would like to thank the different departments of the City Council, the social entities working within the Reception Service Network and the Barcelona Municipal Immigration Council, all of whom, guided by their cross-cultural approach on immigration policies, have helped us through the development of this portal.
We hope that you will find the information you are searching for and invite you to share your suggestions on ways to improve this portal.
Sincerely,
The Immigration Department
