These are two floodlit fountains with high basins which were built in 1959 and are situated on the side of Plaça Catalunya facing the mountains. The fountains are separated by a terrace containing eight statues which had previously existed. These ornamental fountains have a water recirculation system.
The Ornamental Waterworks and Lighting Service of Barcelona City Council decided to embellish the upper area of Plaça Catalunya, thus ridding it of a corner of weeds and bushes. This project was designed in 1958 by Espiau Seoane, who was the head of this Service.
