Cast iron fountain with four taps and crowned by a street lantern with four lights. There is a little fountain for dogs in one of the corners.
In 1888, Barcelona City Council agreed to build various lantern fountains to be located at various points of the city for the World Fair. One was awarded to the section of La Rambla known as Canaletes and was to replace the two fountains dating from 1863. This project was carried out by local architect Pere Falqués.
Nowadays you can find public fountains like the Canaletes fountain in various places in Barcelona, but the most emblematic one is the fountain located on La Rambla. This fountain is a reference point, meeting point, place to celebrate city events and, according to the popular saying, “If you drink water from Canaletes fountain, you will be even more in love with Barcelona, and no matter how far away you go, you will always come back.”
