You can find this ornamental fountain, with its own water sourcing and recirculation, in the Laribal Gardens. The fountain is a flight of steps inspired by the Arabesque Generalife Gardens of Granada, and connects the upper area of the Laribal Gardens with the Amargós Gardens and the Teatre Grec Gardens. The water flows down the top of the banister walls, there are glazed fountains on the terraces and shaded benches for enjoying the fresh air and the sound of water.
These gardens, including those inside the exhibition site for the Barcelona World Fair in 1929, were remodelled by Jean-Claude Nicolas Forestier and Nicolau M. Rubió Tudurí; they created a new traditional Mediterranean landscape style there, respecting the pre-existing plants and including features which were characteristic of the gardens made by the Arabs in the Peninsula, such as ceramic tiles, ornamental waterworks, lots of planted areas and growing flowering plants in pots located on the banister walls, ledges and curbs.
The fountains and ponds in this area are included in the Barcelona City Council Amphibian Protection Programme, which maintains the water without using chlorine so as to promote the recovery of protected amphibian species, such as the Common Midwife Frog or the European Tree Frog.
