The 1929 World Fair led to Montjuïc Mountain being landscaped by J.N.C. Forestier, with Josep Puig i Cadalfach in charge of urban arrangment. This area is structured around a main axis which starts at Plaça Espanya and runs along the current Avinguda Maria Cristina until it reaches the Palau Nacional. This axis was to be the main area for the fair.
With the Magic Fountain, the waterfalls, the jets and the glass lanterns on Avinguda Maria Cristina, the engineer Carles Buïgas gave the entire area a fresh and spectacular image.
