The Labyrinth Park is situated on the former estate of the Desvalls family, close to the Collserola mountains, and includes a neoclassical garden from the 18th century and a romantic garden from the 19th century. The layout of the park stretches over three levels, like layered terraces. There is a reservoir in the top area which collects water for watering the gardens. In the middle area there are gazebos with dome roofs supported by Tuscan columns. The labyrinth, the central feature of the premises, is in the lower area.
Water, together with the plants, is the main character throughout park. Overall, there are over 20 water features −(pools, fountains, reservoirs, canals, waterfalls) − which help a large variety of plant species to grow.
The fountains and pools in this park are included in the Barcelona City Council Amphibian Protection Programme, which maintains the water without using chlorine in order to promote the recovery of protected amphibian species, such as the Common Midwife Frog, the European Tree Frog or the Perez’s Frog. The fish are kept in separate spaces from the amphibians so that they don’t compete against each other.
