Francesc Macià Monument

Plaça Catalunya

Situated on the side of Plaça Catalunya which faces the sea is the sculpture titled The Goddess and the monument to president Francesc Macià. The pool where the sculpture is located has a water recirculation system.

The Goddess o The Enigma, by Josep Clarà, was sculpted from white marble. The original sculpture dates from 1928, based on a model from 1911, and Clarà was granted a prominent site on Plaça Catalunya for this art piece. The current sculpture is a copy made by Ricard Sala in 1982, commissioned by the City Council who decided to withdraw the original, due to the signs of weathering, and keep it in the foyer of the City Hall. The statue is situated in the middle of a pool to protect it, in front of which stands the Monument to Francesc Macià by Josep Maria Subirachs, which was added in December 1991.
