Water Tower

Roger de Llúria, 56
La Rambla

This red brick construction has a hexagonal base, reinforced at the vertexes, which supports a round storage tower. It was built in 1870 by the architect Josep Oriol Mestres and the engineer Antoni Darder and is situated inside one of the Eixample blocks. The Water Tower’s function was to supply the first buildings in the Eixample with water via a system which exploited groundwater.

In 1987, this inner area was converted into a public garden and a swimming pool was created around the Water Tower which is available for use in the summer and obtains its water supply from groundwater.
